Historic Buildings

Members of this group are actively involved in the survey of historic houses, churches and other buildings, especially those that are threatened by demolition or drastic alteration. Our membership is equally varied. Some are architects, or builders, two were Conservation Officers, others are schoolteachers, or simply care for our architectural heritage.

We arrange talks on, and visits to, historic buildings throughout the year for the benefit of SANHS members and their friends.

We also provide a vital link with conservation bodies such as the Council for British Archaeology, English Heritage and Somerset County Council's Department for the Environment, with each contacting the others for advice and information.

In fact this is one of those groups which would function almost without the stimuli of committee meetings, though about four of these are held during the year.
