Cambridge Archaeological Unit and the University of Cardiff are undertaking excavations at Ham Hill, (Stoke Sub Hamdon). The work is in advance of the
extension to the quarry and is located immediately to the east of the existing quarry.

20110929 Public Opening of the Museum of Somerset After years of planning, and untold hours of work by hundreds of people, we are very pleased to announce that the new Museum of Somerset at Taunton Castle will open at midday on 29 September 2011.

The Somerset Levels and Moors has some of the most exciting archaeology in the country. This one day conference celebrates the recent archaeological discoveries from the area. A wide range of speakers will present the results of investigations on the wetland landscape and on the ‘islands’ of hard geology in the floodplain. The changing coast, ‘disappeared’ rivers, mesolithic burials, Saxon forts and medieval Abbeys and much more will feature.
