Notes on the SANHS New Content Google Site
The New Content site has been set up so that SANHS members can put website content easily and directly into public view.
The purpose
of the site:
1. To display SANHS members' web material in a live and immediate way, and
encourage interaction with the web
2. To provide links and news in the eclectic field of subjects that is represented
by SANHS
3. For the wider public to view and be interested.
Uploading
Content:
1. Arrange for your email address to be cleared for editing rights, with me,
or with the SANHS office
for passing on.
2. Bring up the site in your browser - all browsers should be effective.
3. Go to the 'sign in' link at the bottom left of the page, and register or
log in to your own Google Account using your email address as the user name.
This will then take you back to the SANHS New Content site with editing functions
now available.
4. Use the Home Page or make your own page if you prefer.
5. Write or copy and paste text. Text can be made into a link.
6. Either 'insert' images for them to appear as images on the page, or 'attach'
if they are large files or pdfs. The browse dialogue box that appears will
not be invading your hard drive, but is setting up the outward route for your
selected file to the site.
7. Images should ideally be jpegs at about 72 dpi, which is the native resolution
of most computer screens. Use RGB colour, better than CMYK. The image dimensions
should then be as you would like it to appear on the screen. 'Attach' the
image if you would like it to remain full size. Contact me for more help.
8. Use the table function to lay out your page.
9. Leave some sign of your identity as the author, for me at least.
10. Be prepared for delays in response from Google at any stage. There appears
to be a queuing system, so have other things to do while you are patiently
waiting to avoid frustration!

Content placed
here may sometimes be suitable for inclusion in the main SANHS site, and so
the web manager may copy or move sections across from time to time. On the
main site material will become more 'accessible'. The web manager may also
moderate the site, but only in extremis because variety of expression is in
the main a good thing!
Content may also be copied for the printed SANHS newsletter
The SANHS Members' Page is shortly to become a password protected area of the site available only to members, and a SANHS Message Board will then be available there for members' comments, gripes and discussion (also subject to moderation). However the SANHS New Content site will be open to view to the public - the world - with the slightly different function to the message board.
Only members with an email address authorised for the site will be able to post material. Please submit this to the website manager or to the SANHS office for forwarding, if you wish to participate.
Note that any material posted will feature in search engines. Key words and phrases will then attract interested web users in the public, so the more the better.
Have fun, and remember, that is what this is for! Please email if you have any problems, questions or comments.
